The Marc VDS Racing Team rider was the quickest in Moto2 FP at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, ahead of Andrea Iannone, Alex de Angelis and Stefan Bradl.
Scott Redding affirmed his pace for a pole challenge later on Saturday with the fastest time in the second Moto2 practice at Phillip Island, setting a best lap of 1'35.297 in the final session before qualifying.
The Brit was 0.057s faster than Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up), with Friday's fastest rider Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2) third in this session at 0.072s off Redding's pace.
Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo) and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) were separated by less than a tenth of a second from positions four to six, with Karel Abraham (Cardion ab Motoracing) and Claudio Corti (Forward Racing) completing the top eight.
2010 Champion Toni ElÃas (Gresini Racing) was 16th in the session, 0.941s off Redding's marker. The Moto2 class returns to the track at 3.10pm local time for the qualifying session.
