Marco Simoncelli was extremely satisfied with another impressive result in his debut season in MotoGP after placing sixth in the Grand Prix of Japan on Sunday. From eighth position on the grid the former 250cc World Champion - who won at Motegi in the former intermediate class on his way to the 2008 title - rose to sixth and only lost out on a season's best of fifth place to experienced rival Colin Edwards.

"I had a very good race and I'm quite happy because in the last few races I have been very fast at the beginning but my rhythm has dropped a little bit after the start," explained the Italian. "But today I had a very constant rhythm throughout the race and I am happy about this. I'm a little bit unhappy about losing the fight with Edwards for fifth but the race and the result are good. I now hope to improve in the next races."

Simoncelli's previous best was the same result at Sachsenring earlier in the campaign and he now heads to Sepang for Round 15, a venue at which he has been on the podium for the last two seasons in the former 250cc category.

"Unfortunately Sepang is not one of my favorite circuits but I hope the set-up of our bike works well there and I hope for a good result there as well," he concluded.

Simoncelli now occupies ninth place in the overall standings, just four points behind eighth-placed Randy de Puniet with four rounds remaining.
