The podium area was the setting at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit on Sunday for a special ceremony in tribute to Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa.

Shoya's parents were present to receive a special plaque from FIM President Vito Ippolito displaying his number 48, which has been retired from the MotoGP World Championship in honour of his memory and contribution to the sport.

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta then handed over a book containing the many messages of support sent by MotoGP fans to the family, friends and Technomag-CIP team of Shoya - members of which were also on the podium - in the aftermath of his tragic death on September 5th.

And Olivier Metraux was also at the ceremony to present Shoya's parents with the Michel Metraux Trophy, which was awarded posthumously following a unanimous vote by his fellow Moto2 riders. A special tribute video then recalled Shoya's best moments from his two full seasons in the World Championship.
